We all have driven by million small restaurants in Denver and never consider the idea of eating in one of them because most of us know the dangers of eating in strange restaurants, but what if you knew you were missing out on some delicious food. I don’t recommend going into every single restaurant out there… unless you’re the adventurous type! But these are some true hole-in-the-wall restaurants that have won the love and respect of the locals and should be on your must try list.
Torta Grill- Located on Williams st and Colfax, this little spot offers limited seating but delicious tortas, tamales, fresh fruit and fresh juices. You would have never known this tiny restaurant ranks number 1 on Best of Yelp in Denver. Make sure try their cucumber lemonade it’s definitely what this restaurant is known for! Pho 95- Located on South Federal, this restaurant has won more awards in the past 5 years than any other Asian restaurant in Colorado! From Westword’s “Best of” to the “A” list award, Pho 95 has won them all. If you’re not into Pho you can try their delicious combination bowls that have fresh mint, cucumber and Vietnamese eggrolls. Their vegetarian pho is the best in town with fried tofu, snow peas, carrots, and broccoli and rice noodles! Make sure to get their early on Friday’s and Saturdays because it’s always packed at dinner time! http://pho95noodlehouse.com/index.html
Jerusalem-Located right next to DU, the Jerusalem Restaurant rates as one of Denver's best choices for Middle Eastern cuisine, a fact evidenced by long waits for a table! If you are craving falafel patties or pita rollups with lamb or chicken this is the place to come and get your fix. The restaurant tends to be crowded and smoky but the outdoor patio is unbeatable on summer night! Check it out at http://www.jerusalemrestaurant.com/
The 20th Street Café-Located on 20th st, this café offers about a dozen or so tables and a six-seat counter in a luncheonette-style storefront. Their chicken-fried steak and mashed potatoes will blow you away. It’s your solid, hearty all American diner.
